About the Temperature Converter

Temperature conversions trip everyone up because the scales have different zero points and step sizes. This converter handles all four scientific scales — Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin and Rankine — updating all of them as you type, and marks key reference points: absolute zero, freezing point, room temperature, body temperature and boiling point. Weather forecasts, ovens, labs and fevers all covered.

How to use the Temperature Converter

  1. Type a temperature value.
  2. Choose its scale.
  3. Read the other three scales instantly.
  4. Check the reference points for intuition.

Key features

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply by 9, divide by 5, then add 32. So 20°C = 68°F. The converter applies this exact formula.
Why does Kelvin have no degrees?
Kelvin is an absolute scale starting at absolute zero; it measures energy directly, so "degrees" would be redundant — 0 K is the lowest possible temperature.
